![]() ![]() In Pemberville, Ohio there is a little store that preserves a sense of the past. First opened in the 1870's, Beeker's was run from around the 1930's to 1996 by the Beeker family. Miss Mildred Beeker took full ownership in the '50's and did everything that it takes to run a store.
The indented step shows the wear of over a hundred and thirty years of traffic. In the beginning it was trod by farmers who were just breaking ground at the end of the 1800’s. The townies, who chose to live closer to the railroad station and the Opera House and the little river that runs through Pemberville counted on Beeker's for all those things they couldn't grow at home. At the very back, up a step, Todd has a permanent Christmas store where he displays Victorian type ornaments, European hand-blown glass ornaments and tin toys as in days of yore. If you are ever taking the scenic route on #105 through
northwest Ohio, driving along the Portage River that flows into Lake
Erie. Be sure to stop in at Beeker's General Store. It's right
on #105 in downtown Pemberville, you can't miss it. I highly
recommend the Amish Maple Nut Clusters as a traveling treat. |
